Description/Blazon
A shield blazoned: Azure, a winged dinosaur segreant Argent pierced by a barong fesswise Proper. Below and to the sides of the shield is a blue scroll edged in silver, inscribed "1 • 2 • 3 • GO" in silver letters.
Symbolism
The blue shield represents Infantry. The winged dinosaur references the masthead of the 123d Infantry Regimental newspaper published in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan, and also signifies the New Guinea battle honor. The barong, a weapon used by the Bontoc Igorots and other mountain tribes near Baguio, symbolizes the battle honor earned in that region.
Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on November 9, 1951, and rescinded on January 7, 1975.
