    Background

    The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 138th Infantry Regiment on 24 May 1926. It was redesignated for the 1138th Engineer Battalion on 3 May 1989 and redesignated back to the 138th Infantry Regiment effective 2 September 2010.
