Description/Blazon
A shield blazoned: Argent, a Spanish castle Gules in base, with a fleur-de-lis of the same in chief and a giant cactus Vert on a mount. Attached below and to the sides of the shield is a silver scroll inscribed "AVAUNCEZ" in black letters.
Symbolism
The silver shield represents the old Infantry color. The Spanish castle, derived from the Spanish Campaign Medal, signifies military service beyond the continental United States. The cactus and fleur-de-lis commemorate service on the Mexican Border and in World War I, respectively. The motto translates to "Advance, or Forward."
Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 16 August 1933.
