Description/Blazon
A shield blazoned: Argent (silver), a bend archy in the colors of the rainbow (Gules, Or, and Azure) between a prickly pear cactus in chief and a palm tree on a mound Proper in base. A silver scroll inscribed with "ON GUARD" in blue letters is attached below and along the sides of the shield.
Symbolism
The white shield represents the traditional Infantry color. The rainbow-colored bend archy signifies the Regiment's World War I service with the 42nd Division. The prickly pear cactus denotes service on the Mexican Border, while the palm tree symbolizes service in the Philippines.
Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 28 July 1931.
