Unidentified Soldier In Union Uniform And Slouch Cap With Bayoneted Musket, Cap Box, Cartridge Box, And Bayonet Scabbard (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Die-Cut Decal

A standing Union infantryman in a slouch cap holds a bayoneted musket, equipped with his cap box, cartridge box and bayonet scabbard, in a monochrome 1860s tintype.

Visual Elements & Composition

The figure stands upright in a dark uniform, and the rifle with its fixed bayonet runs diagonally across the frame. Slate and olive greys dominate the image, with the antique tones of the tintype lending a soft, aged finish. The cap box and cartridge box hang at the soldier's side, and the rounded case of the original portrait frames the whole scene.

Meaning & Symbolism

The image records a Union soldier of the American Civil War, between 1861 and 1865. The slouch cap marks the practical field dress that replaced formal regulation headgear, and the musket, bayonet and cartridge box show the equipment an infantryman carried into combat. Together these details present the common soldier as a combatant, and the portrait honours the collective service of the infantry forces of the era.

Shaped to the Soldier

A die-cut sticker follows the outline of the artwork itself, so the musket, the cap and the figure define the edge of the object rather than a square around it. The matte finish suits the muted tones of the tintype, and the sticker is well placed on a journal, a notebook or a laptop lid, where the gear the soldier carries can be studied up close.

Die-cut vinyl decals: precision-cut shapes on premium water-resistant vinyl with a matte laminate and UV protection — built to resist sun, rain and everyday wear for long-lasting use.

These die-cut decals are trimmed exactly to the design, producing crisp edges and a professional finish. They’re made from thick, water-resistant vinyl and finished with a matte UV laminate that reduces glare while protecting colors from fading.

The production process uses eco-solvent inks for dense, even color and a protective overlaminate that helps the decal survive outdoor exposure. Rated for multi-year outdoor life when applied to the right surface, these decals give a clean, matte look without sacrificing durability.

  • Material: premium water-resistant vinyl engineered for weather resistance.
  • Finish: matte laminate that mutes shine and guards against scratches.
  • Print: eco-solvent inks for solid blacks and vivid color depth.
  • Protection: UV laminate extends outdoor life and helps prevent fade.
  • Longevity: rated to last multiple years outdoors under normal conditions.

Die-cut decals adhere best to smooth, non-porous surfaces — glass, metal, coated plastics and finished wood. They work well on bottles, windows, laptops and vehicle windows for short- to medium-term outdoor use.

  1. Prep the surface: remove dust and oils with a lint-free cloth; for residue use mild soap and water and allow to dry fully.
  2. Peel and position: lift a corner of the liner, align the decal and lay it down slowly, pressing from the center outward.
  3. Seal: smooth the edges with a card or your thumb to ensure full contact and reduce trapping air.

Note: to keep adhesive performance in wet conditions, apply decals to very smooth surfaces (for example: glass). Avoid rough or heavily textured materials where the adhesive can’t form a full bond.

Maintenance is low-effort. Gently wipe decals with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp microfiber and light pressure will clean the surface — dry immediately afterward.

Avoid abrasive pads, strong solvents or power washers; these can scratch the laminate or lift edges. Proper care preserves the matte finish and keeps colors vivid for longer.

Sizes are specified by the longest side. For example, a 4″ decal measures four inches across its greatest dimension. The die-cut follows the artwork’s contour so the decal sits flush with clean, professional edges.

Small variations can occur with intricate outlines, but the listed measurement always reflects the maximum edge-to-edge length for accurate placement planning.
