Unidentified Soldier In Union Uniform And Forage Cap With Infantry Insignia And 2nd Corps Army Of The Potomac Badge (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Die-Cut Decal

A historical photograph of an unidentified Union infantryman, wearing a forage cap and the badge of the 2nd Corps of the Army of the Potomac.

Visual Elements & Composition

The portrait is built on the soldier's uniform and headwear, which carry the composition. The blue of the Union coat sets him apart from the grey of the opposing army, and the forage cap and the infantry insignia mark his branch of service. The corps badge is the detail that identifies his formation, and the image is about that uniform as much as the man wearing it.

Meaning & Symbolism

Corps badges were used during the American Civil War to show which corps a soldier belonged to, so that men could be recognised on the battlefield and in camp. The 2nd Corps badge took the form of a trefoil, a three-leaf shape, and it helped improve unit identity and morale across the Army of the Potomac, the principal Union army in the East between 1861 and 1865. The soldier's personal identity is not known, which places the focus on the unit, the rank and the standard issue uniform that he represents.

On a Die-Cut Sticker

A die-cut sticker is cut to the outline of its artwork, so the forage cap and shoulders can be cut close without a border. That suits a sketchbook, a journal or a laptop lid, where the detail of the uniform and badge can be read up close.

Die-cut vinyl decals: precision-cut shapes on premium water-resistant vinyl with a matte laminate and UV protection — built to resist sun, rain and everyday wear for long-lasting use.

These die-cut decals are trimmed exactly to the design, producing crisp edges and a professional finish. They’re made from thick, water-resistant vinyl and finished with a matte UV laminate that reduces glare while protecting colors from fading.

The production process uses eco-solvent inks for dense, even color and a protective overlaminate that helps the decal survive outdoor exposure. Rated for multi-year outdoor life when applied to the right surface, these decals give a clean, matte look without sacrificing durability.

  • Material: premium water-resistant vinyl engineered for weather resistance.
  • Finish: matte laminate that mutes shine and guards against scratches.
  • Print: eco-solvent inks for solid blacks and vivid color depth.
  • Protection: UV laminate extends outdoor life and helps prevent fade.
  • Longevity: rated to last multiple years outdoors under normal conditions.

Die-cut decals adhere best to smooth, non-porous surfaces — glass, metal, coated plastics and finished wood. They work well on bottles, windows, laptops and vehicle windows for short- to medium-term outdoor use.

  1. Prep the surface: remove dust and oils with a lint-free cloth; for residue use mild soap and water and allow to dry fully.
  2. Peel and position: lift a corner of the liner, align the decal and lay it down slowly, pressing from the center outward.
  3. Seal: smooth the edges with a card or your thumb to ensure full contact and reduce trapping air.

Note: to keep adhesive performance in wet conditions, apply decals to very smooth surfaces (for example: glass). Avoid rough or heavily textured materials where the adhesive can’t form a full bond.

Maintenance is low-effort. Gently wipe decals with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp microfiber and light pressure will clean the surface — dry immediately afterward.

Avoid abrasive pads, strong solvents or power washers; these can scratch the laminate or lift edges. Proper care preserves the matte finish and keeps colors vivid for longer.

Sizes are specified by the longest side. For example, a 4″ decal measures four inches across its greatest dimension. The die-cut follows the artwork’s contour so the decal sits flush with clean, professional edges.

Small variations can occur with intricate outlines, but the listed measurement always reflects the maximum edge-to-edge length for accurate placement planning.
