Portrait Of Maj. Gen. Mansfield Lovell, Officer Of The Confederate Army (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Die-Cut Decal

A black-and-white photographic portrait of Major General Mansfield Lovell, seated in full uniform in the manner of a 1860s studio image.

Visual Elements & Composition

The image is a vertical photograph in greys, from pale highlights to a near-black ground. The sitter fills the centre, wearing a double-breasted military coat with a row of buttons and a belt with a round buckle. He is seated in an upholstered chair with tasselled fringe, and his gloves and sword knot are visible at the edges of the frame. The lighting is even and the pose upright, so the uniform and the chair set the structure of the composition.

Meaning & Symbolism

The formal pose and the uniform were the conventions of 19th-century military portraiture, used to show rank and authority. Lovell is best known for commanding Confederate forces in the defence of New Orleans in 1862, before the city fell to Union naval forces under Admiral David Farragut. His reputation declined after that loss and his later removal from duty, so the portrait records a career that is still discussed by historians of the period.

Cut to the Figure

A die-cut sticker is trimmed to its own outline, so the dark border and the seated figure can be shaped to the edge of the photograph. Used on a notebook, a laptop or a journal, the image reads as a small piece of period documentation, best appreciated up close where the buttons, buckle and fringe show their detail.

Die-cut vinyl decals: precision-cut shapes on premium water-resistant vinyl with a matte laminate and UV protection — built to resist sun, rain and everyday wear for long-lasting use.

These die-cut decals are trimmed exactly to the design, producing crisp edges and a professional finish. They’re made from thick, water-resistant vinyl and finished with a matte UV laminate that reduces glare while protecting colors from fading.

The production process uses eco-solvent inks for dense, even color and a protective overlaminate that helps the decal survive outdoor exposure. Rated for multi-year outdoor life when applied to the right surface, these decals give a clean, matte look without sacrificing durability.

  • Material: premium water-resistant vinyl engineered for weather resistance.
  • Finish: matte laminate that mutes shine and guards against scratches.
  • Print: eco-solvent inks for solid blacks and vivid color depth.
  • Protection: UV laminate extends outdoor life and helps prevent fade.
  • Longevity: rated to last multiple years outdoors under normal conditions.

Die-cut decals adhere best to smooth, non-porous surfaces — glass, metal, coated plastics and finished wood. They work well on bottles, windows, laptops and vehicle windows for short- to medium-term outdoor use.

  1. Prep the surface: remove dust and oils with a lint-free cloth; for residue use mild soap and water and allow to dry fully.
  2. Peel and position: lift a corner of the liner, align the decal and lay it down slowly, pressing from the center outward.
  3. Seal: smooth the edges with a card or your thumb to ensure full contact and reduce trapping air.

Note: to keep adhesive performance in wet conditions, apply decals to very smooth surfaces (for example: glass). Avoid rough or heavily textured materials where the adhesive can’t form a full bond.

Maintenance is low-effort. Gently wipe decals with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp microfiber and light pressure will clean the surface — dry immediately afterward.

Avoid abrasive pads, strong solvents or power washers; these can scratch the laminate or lift edges. Proper care preserves the matte finish and keeps colors vivid for longer.

Sizes are specified by the longest side. For example, a 4″ decal measures four inches across its greatest dimension. The die-cut follows the artwork’s contour so the decal sits flush with clean, professional edges.

Small variations can occur with intricate outlines, but the listed measurement always reflects the maximum edge-to-edge length for accurate placement planning.
