Portrait Of Maj. Gen. Edward Ferrero, Officer Of The Federal Army (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Die-Cut Decal

A black-and-white portrait of Major General Edward Ferrero of the Union Army, seated in a dark military coat with a moustache and shoulder insignia.

Visual Elements & Composition

Light grey and charcoal black dominate the image, with a little off-white in the highlights. The sitter is shown seated, his dark coat filling the lower frame. His moustache and face are the focal point, while the shoulder insignia and a small medal on his chest mark his rank and service. The rectangular plate of the photograph frames the whole portrait, with no lettering beyond the title.

Meaning & Symbolism

Edward Ferrero was an Italian-American officer who commanded troops of the United States Colored Troops during the Civil War, including at the Siege of Petersburg. The insignia and the military dress signal his rank and the authority of a senior commander, and portraits of this kind were made to record that service. The image is also a reminder of the African American soldiers who served under him and of the changing make-up of the Union Army.

Cut to the Portrait

A die-cut sticker is cut to the outline of its artwork, so the figure can be separated from the plate and placed on its own. The strong grey and black tones read well on a laptop lid, a notebook cover or a window, and the matte finish keeps the photographic surface calm under light.

Die-cut vinyl decals: precision-cut shapes on premium water-resistant vinyl with a matte laminate and UV protection — built to resist sun, rain and everyday wear for long-lasting use.

These die-cut decals are trimmed exactly to the design, producing crisp edges and a professional finish. They’re made from thick, water-resistant vinyl and finished with a matte UV laminate that reduces glare while protecting colors from fading.

The production process uses eco-solvent inks for dense, even color and a protective overlaminate that helps the decal survive outdoor exposure. Rated for multi-year outdoor life when applied to the right surface, these decals give a clean, matte look without sacrificing durability.

  • Material: premium water-resistant vinyl engineered for weather resistance.
  • Finish: matte laminate that mutes shine and guards against scratches.
  • Print: eco-solvent inks for solid blacks and vivid color depth.
  • Protection: UV laminate extends outdoor life and helps prevent fade.
  • Longevity: rated to last multiple years outdoors under normal conditions.

Die-cut decals adhere best to smooth, non-porous surfaces — glass, metal, coated plastics and finished wood. They work well on bottles, windows, laptops and vehicle windows for short- to medium-term outdoor use.

  1. Prep the surface: remove dust and oils with a lint-free cloth; for residue use mild soap and water and allow to dry fully.
  2. Peel and position: lift a corner of the liner, align the decal and lay it down slowly, pressing from the center outward.
  3. Seal: smooth the edges with a card or your thumb to ensure full contact and reduce trapping air.

Note: to keep adhesive performance in wet conditions, apply decals to very smooth surfaces (for example: glass). Avoid rough or heavily textured materials where the adhesive can’t form a full bond.

Maintenance is low-effort. Gently wipe decals with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp microfiber and light pressure will clean the surface — dry immediately afterward.

Avoid abrasive pads, strong solvents or power washers; these can scratch the laminate or lift edges. Proper care preserves the matte finish and keeps colors vivid for longer.

Sizes are specified by the longest side. For example, a 4″ decal measures four inches across its greatest dimension. The die-cut follows the artwork’s contour so the decal sits flush with clean, professional edges.

Small variations can occur with intricate outlines, but the listed measurement always reflects the maximum edge-to-edge length for accurate placement planning.
