James W. Millner Of Company K, 38th Virginia Infantry Regiment With Bayoneted Musket, Holstered Pistol, And Knife (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Die-Cut Decal

A hand-tinted tintype portrait of James W. Millner of Company K, 38th Virginia Infantry Regiment, standing in a kepi with his rifle and bayonet.

Visual Elements & Composition

Pale grey-blue and cream carry the soft tones of the tintype, with dark brown in the figure's uniform and gold in the gilt-brass mat that frames the picture. A dull red shows in the velvet of the case that surrounds the portrait. The standing soldier is set within a rounded-corner oval, with the rifle and bayonet held upright beside him. The composition is formal and frontal, with the figure filling the oval and the frame giving the image its weight.

Meaning & Symbolism

The portrait belongs to the 1860s tradition of the tintype, a cheap, durable photograph that let soldiers and their families keep a likeness of a man going off to war. Hand-tinting added colour to the plate, and the gilt case made it a keepsake to be displayed. The rifle, bayonet and kepi mark the infantryman's role, and the 38th Virginia Infantry places the portrait within a Virginia regiment during the Civil War.

A Portrait Cut to Its Outline

A die-cut sticker follows the outline of the image, so the oval of the portrait and the upright line of the rifle can shape the edge rather than a square border. The rifle and the kepi read clearly at arm's length, so the sticker suits a notebook cover or a desk where the figure can be seen up close.

Die-cut vinyl decals: precision-cut shapes on premium water-resistant vinyl with a matte laminate and UV protection — built to resist sun, rain and everyday wear for long-lasting use.

These die-cut decals are trimmed exactly to the design, producing crisp edges and a professional finish. They’re made from thick, water-resistant vinyl and finished with a matte UV laminate that reduces glare while protecting colors from fading.

The production process uses eco-solvent inks for dense, even color and a protective overlaminate that helps the decal survive outdoor exposure. Rated for multi-year outdoor life when applied to the right surface, these decals give a clean, matte look without sacrificing durability.

  • Material: premium water-resistant vinyl engineered for weather resistance.
  • Finish: matte laminate that mutes shine and guards against scratches.
  • Print: eco-solvent inks for solid blacks and vivid color depth.
  • Protection: UV laminate extends outdoor life and helps prevent fade.
  • Longevity: rated to last multiple years outdoors under normal conditions.

Die-cut decals adhere best to smooth, non-porous surfaces — glass, metal, coated plastics and finished wood. They work well on bottles, windows, laptops and vehicle windows for short- to medium-term outdoor use.

  1. Prep the surface: remove dust and oils with a lint-free cloth; for residue use mild soap and water and allow to dry fully.
  2. Peel and position: lift a corner of the liner, align the decal and lay it down slowly, pressing from the center outward.
  3. Seal: smooth the edges with a card or your thumb to ensure full contact and reduce trapping air.

Note: to keep adhesive performance in wet conditions, apply decals to very smooth surfaces (for example: glass). Avoid rough or heavily textured materials where the adhesive can’t form a full bond.

Maintenance is low-effort. Gently wipe decals with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. For stubborn marks, a slightly damp microfiber and light pressure will clean the surface — dry immediately afterward.

Avoid abrasive pads, strong solvents or power washers; these can scratch the laminate or lift edges. Proper care preserves the matte finish and keeps colors vivid for longer.

Sizes are specified by the longest side. For example, a 4″ decal measures four inches across its greatest dimension. The die-cut follows the artwork’s contour so the decal sits flush with clean, professional edges.

Small variations can occur with intricate outlines, but the listed measurement always reflects the maximum edge-to-edge length for accurate placement planning.
