Visual Elements & Composition

Light grey fills nearly half the composition and gives the crest its clean, formal base. Crimson red and burnt orange carry the heraldic colour, while black sets the outlines and deepest shadows. A rectangular crest anchors the layout, with a snarling orange-brown tiger head at its centre and an orange lightning bolt cutting beside it. Concentric arcs frame the emblem, and a scroll banner runs across the lower section reading FIRST VOICE HEARD.

Meaning & Symbolism

The tiger is the battalion's nickname, "Tigers," and the lightning bolt points to the signal mission: fast, reliable communication across the force. The mottoes "First Voice Heard!" and "Loud and Clear!" state that mission in the unit's own words. The battalion is a subordinate unit of the 11th Signal Brigade at Fort Bliss, Texas, and has been active from 1966 to 1971 and again from 1977 to the present. This artwork follows the formal conventions of military heraldry to honour that history.

  1. Prep: clean the area with mild soap and water or 70% isopropyl alcohol; let it dry fully.
  2. Apply: peel, align, and press from the center outward with a card or squeegee to push out air.
  3. Set: allow 24 hours for the adhesive to reach full bond; avoid heavy moisture during this time.

Tips: Avoid heavily textured or silicone-coated surfaces. For curved items, apply slowly and don’t stretch the film.

  • Wipe with a soft, dry or slightly damp cloth from the center outward to lift dust and grime.
  • Avoid abrasive pads, harsh solvents, or pressure washers that can dull the holographic layer.
  • If placed on bottles or mugs, hand-wash is recommended. Prolonged high-heat cycles can shorten adhesive life.
