Description/Blazon

On an upright blue rectangle with rounded ends, bordered by a inner white border and an outer red border, there is a depiction of northern lights in yellow above two white-capped mountains. Superimposed from top to bottom is a blue bayonet, point up, edged in white.

Symbolism

The blue bayonet represents the Infantry, symbolizing attack and combat. The northern lights signify the region where the unit was originally organized, while the mountains represent the challenging terrain over which the units operate to secure and maintain positions.

Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was approved on 28 August 1963.
