Meaning & Symbolism

The scales of justice mark the policing mission at the heart of a military police unit, while the crossed axe and flintlock pistol reference the arms and traditions associated with that role. The three stars and the bundled spear draw on the language of military rank and authority. The motto on the banner is the unit's call to readiness. The design represents the 105th Military Police Battalion of the North Carolina Army National Guard and the US Army, a unit redesignated from the 449th Aviation Company in October 2003, the year its Distinctive Unit Insignia was approved on September 1, 2003. The artwork commemorates the battalion's service from 2003 to the present, honouring its lineage and its place within the National Guard.
