A steep rocky mountain rises through the frame, its surface dotted with small trees, while the hills recede into soft tonal bands and pine trees stand across a flat plain below. Columns of colophon text and seal stamps sit along the margins, and the reproduction keeps the restrained, monochrome character of ink painting, with no colour beyond grey.

Meaning & Symbolism

Landscape scrolls of this period follow the literati vocabulary of Chinese painting, where mountains, pines and distant hills stand for seclusion, contemplation and the scholar's withdrawal from the noise of the world. The dedication to Xiang Yuanbian, a major collector and evaluator of historic masterpieces, marks the work as an exchange between friends within the cultural elite of sixteenth-century China. Wen Jia belonged to the Wu School centred on Suzhou, a leading cultural hub of the Ming dynasty, and the inscriptions and seals carry that personal relationship into the object itself.

Designed to Be Cut to Its Own Outline

A scroll is unrolled and seen at a distance, but this artwork becomes a kiss-cut sticker, so the composition is cut to its own outline and placed where it can be seen up close. The vertical format of the mountain and the colophon columns translates into a single, self-contained image that sits on a surface as a small dedication of its own.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/wen-jia-landscape-dedicated-to-xiang-yuanbian-1578-v4-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788198761
https://thestickerspace.com/products/wen-jia-landscape-dedicated-to-xiang-yuanbian-1578-v4-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
