Units Of 20th Army Corps, Army Of Georgia, Passing On Pennsylvania Avenue Near The Treasury (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Die-Cut Decal

A grey-toned view of marching soldiers with rifles on a Washington avenue, with a crowd of onlookers lining the street, in the manner of a 1860s photograph.

Visual Elements & Composition

The design is monochrome, built from light grey, mid grey and near-black, with the white of the sky and the stone and brick buildings carrying the lighter areas. The soldiers march in a column that recedes down the avenue, and the perspective draws the eye toward the far end of the street. Horse-drawn wagons sit in the distance, and a domed building rises at the back, with street trees and a crowd of hatted onlookers along the pavement.

Meaning & Symbolism

The title records the event: units of the 20th Army Corps of the Army of Georgia passing along Pennsylvania Avenue near the Treasury in the nation's capital. Such processions were the public face of the army in the closing years of the Civil War, when troops moved through Washington on display as well as on duty. The onlookers and the domed building place the march in the civic life of the city.

Cut to the Procession

The die-cut follows the outline of the column and the buildings, so the procession is seen as one shape rather than a rectangle. The vinyl is water-resistant and suited to indoor and outdoor use, and the matte finish keeps the grey tones soft, which suits a documentary street scene on a laptop, a journal or a window.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/washington-dc-units-of-20th-army-corps-army-of-georgia-passing-on-pennsylvania-avenue-near-the-treasury-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal-12428437635273734103-front.webp?v=1790318993
https://thestickerspace.com/products/washington-dc-units-of-20th-army-corps-army-of-georgia-passing-on-pennsylvania-avenue-near-the-treasury-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal
