A vermilion red seal-tone accent punctuates the text, and a white mat border frames the rectangular panel, so the eye reads the page as a mounted sheet. The script runs in tight vertical columns, and the rhythm of those columns, with their varied stroke weights, gives the composition its structure.

Meaning & Symbolism

The inscriptions record the names, social contributions and scholarly standing of five elderly men who shared a life of leisure, learning and harmony in the Northern Song period. They embody the ideal of virtuous retirement: scholar-officials who chose friendship, philosophical discourse and the cultivation of wisdom over bureaucratic power. The colophons span from the Song dynasty into the Qing, with later scholars adding their signatures and poems, so the page becomes a record of continuous dialogue between generations and a key document in the history of connoisseurship and lineage in Chinese art.

On the Kiss-Cut Stickers

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to its own outline, so this design keeps the rectangular panel and its mounted-sheet edge exactly as composed, with no background to dilute the calligraphy. The piece suits collectors of East Asian scholarly art and fans of the Five Old Men of Suiyang, who can place the page where it reads as a deliberate artifact rather than a decoration.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/various-scholars-frontispiece-and-colophons-to-the-album-five-old-men-of-suiyang-unknown-v12-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788223479
https://thestickerspace.com/products/various-scholars-frontispiece-and-colophons-to-the-album-five-old-men-of-suiyang-unknown-v12-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
