A figure in a sage green robe runs with arms outstretched, while a larger figure in a patterned robe with a red sash anchors the lower half. A vertical column of kana verse runs alongside, marked by a red seal, and gold leaf catches light along the gilt album mount. Ink black defines contours throughout, in the light ink and colour wash manner of the period.

Meaning & Symbolism

Albums like this one were assembled as curated anthologies, each leaf a finished masterwork by a skilled hand. The kana verse ties the image to poetic association, a convention that connected painting to the literary learning prized by scholars and collectors. The work was created around 1815, and its ink and colour on silk reflects the refined materials and classical themes of the era. The Metropolitan Museum of Art preserves works from this lineage, which show how Japanese painting developed through shared and cumulative practice.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to its own outline, so the leaf's rectangular panel, its gilt mount and its red seal become the shape of the object itself. Because the design is built from clear contrasts of green, red and gold, it reads at close range, the way a collector studies a single leaf turned in the hand. Each sticker carries one leaf from the album, a small piece of a larger anthology.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/various-artists-painting-album-of-sublime-talent-ca-1815-v10-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788139036
https://thestickerspace.com/products/various-artists-painting-album-of-sublime-talent-ca-1815-v10-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
