Ochre yellow and pale cream fill the largest areas, with coral red accents in the kimono and near-black linework defining the figures and furnishings. Pale sage adds a quiet note to the background. Mount Fuji appears in the distance, and a woman serving a drink from a cup sits within the same scene. The characters 豊國画 appear in the print, identifying its Utagawa school origin.

Meaning & Symbolism

Sugoroku was a popular pastime in the Edo period, and the scene records it as a shared social act rather than a solitary one. The quiet closeness between the two women carries the theme of companionship, while the veranda setting and the women in kimono give an authentic view of domestic leisure in that era. The refined lines and storytelling typical of Toyokuni's workshop make the print a document of everyday life as much as an image of a game.

Reading the Sticker as a Cut Image

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to its own outline, so the figures, table and framing of this composition become a single shape rather than a rectangle with a picture inside it. It suits smooth flat surfaces such as laptops and journals, where the cut edge lets the scene sit directly on the object. Each piece carries the stillness of the original print into a small, handled object that can be placed close to the eye.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/utagawa-toyokuni-i-two-young-women-playing-a-game-of-sugoroku-unknown-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-TGWTYK-2X2-106-alt-3.webp?v=1785629236
https://thestickerspace.com/products/utagawa-toyokuni-i-two-young-women-playing-a-game-of-sugoroku-unknown-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
