The figure in a blue striped kimono holding a folding fan dominates the frame, and her attention is drawn into the small hand mirror she holds. An oval vignette frames the central figure, while a rectangular title panel, set as an oval cartouche, anchors the composition with its lettering. The linework is fine and even, so the eye moves from the patterned fabric to the open fan and back to the mirror.

Meaning & Symbolism

The mirror and fan are the core of the scene. The mirror signals self-reflection and the careful attention to appearance that defined elegant life in Edo-period Japan, while the folding fan marks poise and refinement. Kunisada, one of the most celebrated printmakers of the period, belonged to the ukiyo-e tradition of images of beauty and everyday pleasure. This print comes from his series Sensuous Young Women of, and it presents the female subject as an embodiment of the era's sophisticated taste.

Why It Works as a Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is trimmed to its own outline, so the oval vignette, the fan and the figure's silhouette become the edge of the object itself. Printed on a single surface, the design keeps its layered colour and fine detail intact, and it can be placed where a small, close-up image reads best, such as a journal cover, a laptop lid or the inside of a notebook.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/utagawa-kunisada-woman-with-a-folding-fan-and-hand-mirror-from-the-series-sensuous-young-women-of-1838-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-TGWKNS-2X2-374-alt-3.webp?v=1785636917
https://thestickerspace.com/products/utagawa-kunisada-woman-with-a-folding-fan-and-hand-mirror-from-the-series-sensuous-young-women-of-1838-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
