The composition is built from a vertical rectangular panel, a diamond cartouche, and narrow rectangular label strips. A kabuki actor rests a spear on his shoulder, while a figure in a black and white zigzag robe over a blue patterned kimono stands beside him. A second figure in a green patterned robe holds a spear shaft at the left edge. The printed characters 辰 and 誠忠義士傳 sit within the panels, naming the series as Seichū gishi den.

Meaning & Symbolism

The story follows forty-seven samurai of Ako who avenged their lord, Asano Naganori, after he was forced to take his own life in 1701. Their loyalty and their acceptance of death define the tale's weight, which is why the figures here carry such stillness and tension. Kunisada's Edo-period prints turned this drama into theatre: the actors are not only characters but performers, so the print records both the story and the stage. The title, 誠忠義士傳, means "tales of loyal and righteous men," a phrase that frames the whole composition around honour.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to its own outline, so the artwork's shapes, from the spear lines to the cartouche, become the edge of the object itself. The dense line work and dramatic colour blocks read clearly at close range, where a viewer examines each figure and each character. Placed on a surface you handle or pass often, the print keeps the drama of a theatre bill in a format you can hold up to the light.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/utagawa-kunisada-kabuki-actors-play-the-role-of-47-ronin-seich-gishi-den-unknown-v44-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-TGWKNS-2X2-298-alt-3.webp?v=1785638023
https://thestickerspace.com/products/utagawa-kunisada-kabuki-actors-play-the-role-of-47-ronin-seich-gishi-den-unknown-v44-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
