Samurai figures dominate the central field: one wears a white headband and raises a drawn sword, while another wears a black and white triangle-patterned kimono over a green lattice-patterned under-robe. The palette runs on dark slate, near black, cream, jade green and crimson, with the red and blue cartouches in the upper right giving the eye two anchoring points. Rectangular and diamond-shaped cartouches frame the text, and a poem panel sits in the upper left beside the artist's signature and seal in the lower left.

Meaning & Symbolism

The story of the 47 Ronin is one of the great sagas of Japanese history: forty-seven masterless samurai avenge their lord and accept death for it, making loyalty the theme that drives every figure on the sheet. Kunisada's title, Seichū gishi den, places the scene within that retelling. The Kabuki stage gives the legend its own life, since the actors are shown in their stylised roles, so the print records both the historical tale and the theatre that kept it alive. The geometric patterning of the costumes and cartouches reflects the Edo-period taste for ornament that gave ukiyo-e its recognisable design language.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to the outline of its artwork, so the samurai, the sword and the patterned robes read as a single silhouette on whatever surface they meet. The print's dense cartouches and dark, high-contrast palette hold their shape at small scale, making this a piece for collectors of Japanese woodblock prints and for fans of Kabuki and samurai drama who want the 47 Ronin on something they handle and display.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/utagawa-kunisada-kabuki-actors-play-the-role-of-47-ronin-seich-gishi-den-unknown-v11-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-TGWKNS-2X2-228-alt-3.webp?v=1785639009
https://thestickerspace.com/products/utagawa-kunisada-kabuki-actors-play-the-role-of-47-ronin-seich-gishi-den-unknown-v11-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
