The scene is layered into a horizontal panel, with a fan-shaped cartouche and a vertical sign panel carrying the inscriptions 江戸名会亭尽, 東都, 酒宴之図, 下谷 and 小路. Figures fill the room: a woman plays the shamisen, another dances with a fan, two men drink sake at a low table, and the attendant kneels with the serving tray. The eye moves from the sign panels across the room to the central act of service.

Meaning & Symbolism

The print belongs to A Collection of Famous Restaurants of Edo (Edo Kōmei Kaitei Zukushi), a series that recorded the city's celebrated eateries for its own audience. Its subject is daily social life: music, dance, drink and food arranged around a single moment of hospitality. Hiroshige worked in the Ukiyo-e tradition of the Edo period, and the piece offers a documented window into the culinary and social customs of nineteenth-century Tokyo.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to its own outline, so the composition keeps its own edges: the cartouche, the sign panel and the figures become the shape of the object itself rather than sitting inside a border. Its small scale suits the detail of a crowded interior, letting collectors read the sign calligraphy and the serving scene up close, the way a viewer would have leaned in to a restaurant print in its own time.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/utagawa-hiroshige-the-kawachir-restaurant-shitaya-hirokji-shitaya-hirokji-kawachir-from-the-series-ca-183840-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-TGWHRS-2X2-890-alt-3.webp?v=1785649549
https://thestickerspace.com/products/utagawa-hiroshige-the-kawachir-restaurant-shitaya-hirokji-shitaya-hirokji-kawachir-from-the-series-ca-183840-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
