Canal blue and snow white dominate, warmed by dawn pink in the sky and blossoms. A blue torii-like gate hangs with vermilion lanterns, while a snow-laden plum tree and a snow-covered pine on a cliff frame the edges. Small figures walk the snowy bank, one carrying a pole over the shoulder. Two inscriptions appear in the print: 東都名所, "Famous Places of the Eastern Capital," and 外櫻田, "Soto Sakurada."

Meaning & Symbolism

The title names three places: Sakurada, the moat Benkei Bori, and the cherry trees of Sakura-no-i. Blossoms and snow appear together in one view, setting spring and winter side by side, a way of marking the turning year that runs through Edo-period landscape prints. The gate, lanterns and walking figures place the viewer among the city's people, while the open canal and muted palette give the print its serene, contemplative mood. Hiroshige was one of the most celebrated printmakers of the nineteenth century, and this sheet records the Edo scenery he made his name on.

Designed for the Die-Cut Edge

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to the outline you choose, so the framed rectangle of this print becomes the sticker's own boundary, with the canal and gate running right to its edge. The backing stays intact, which lets the sticker peel cleanly from its sheet and go onto a journal cover, a laptop lid or a notebook, where its small scale keeps the composition readable at close range. Collectors of Ukiyo-e and fans of Japanese landscape will recognise the Sakurada view in a single glance.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/utagawa-hiroshige-soto-sakurada-benkei-bori-sakura-no-i-ca-1842-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-TGWHRS-2X2-774-alt-3.webp?v=1785651284
https://thestickerspace.com/products/utagawa-hiroshige-soto-sakurada-benkei-bori-sakura-no-i-ca-1842-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
