A rectangular print sits on cream margins, and a vertical cartouche carries the printed text: 東海道, 五拾三次, 日阪 and 廣重. Those characters name the Tōkaidō road, its fifty-three stations, the post town of Hisaka (Nissaka), and the artist himself. The eye moves up the winding path from figure to figure, with the thatched-roof inns of the post town resting low in the scene.

Meaning & Symbolism

The porters bent under loaded baskets on poles and the traveller crossing a wooden footbridge with a red-lacquered basket show the road as working infrastructure, the way goods and people actually moved between Edo and Kyoto. Hiroshige made the Tōkaidō series his defining achievement, and this sheet records a real place on that route with the precision of a traveller's eye. The restrained palette and the stillness of the mountains give the print its contemplative, timeless mood, a quality that made Ukiyo-e landscapes collectable from their own era onward.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to its own outline, so the composition reads as a single object rather than a rectangle with a border. The cartouche, the mountain ridges and the road can stand alone against whatever surface they are placed on, which suits a print built from strong vertical and diagonal lines. Collectors of Japanese woodblock prints and travellers who know the Tōkaidō will recognise the characters at the edge of the scene, and this sticker carries that recognition onto a single surface you can hold close.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/utagawa-hiroshige-nissaka-sayo-no-naka-yama-pass-in-the-bayo-mountains-ca-1838-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-TGWHRS-2X2-560-alt-3.webp?v=1785654292
https://thestickerspace.com/products/utagawa-hiroshige-nissaka-sayo-no-naka-yama-pass-in-the-bayo-mountains-ca-1838-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
