Armoured warriors on horseback drive along a diagonal that cuts from corner to corner, while white battle banners rise on poles above them. Vermilion red and warm brown mark the armour and figures, and pale cream sets off the rectangular banners. Pine trees and a wooden bridge over a dark river anchor the lower half, giving the chaos a clear structure.

Meaning & Symbolism

The two rebellions of 1156 and 1160 were fought in the capital and ended civilian courtly authority in Japan. The conflicts brought the Taira and Minamoto clans to power, and their rivalry reshaped the social order that would lead to the shogunate. The painting treats this turning point as a record of legendary history. Attributed to the 17th century, the screen belongs to the Edo-period tradition of battle screens, which revisited medieval wars to reinforce the legitimacy of martial values.

Cut to Its Own Outline

A battle screen is built from a wide, layered scene, and this design is cut to its own outline, so the banners, horses and gold clouds read as one shape. The sticker suits collectors of Japanese history and anyone who follows the samurai era closely, and it lets a single rebellion scene be carried from the shelf of a screen collection to a notebook, laptop or desk.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unknown-the-rebellions-of-the-hgen-and-heiji-eras-17th-century-v33-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788129257
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unknown-the-rebellions-of-the-hgen-and-heiji-eras-17th-century-v33-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
