Its surface carries the marks of age, including a rust-coloured stain, and the numerals 15 and 44 along with the catalogue number 1977.443.2 sit within the frame. The leaf's clean, upright edges give the composition its structure, and the warm, muted palette keeps the focus on the drawing itself.

Meaning & Symbolism

The episode tells how gods and demons cooperate and compete to churn the cosmic ocean and draw out the nectar of immortality. Along the way, divine treasures and toxic substances rise from the waters, and cosmic intervention is needed to preserve the universe. The story stands for the ongoing struggle between order and chaos, and for the balance that holds existence together. Painters of this region and period drew closely on Sanskrit texts and Puranic literature, and this leaf follows their established regional conventions.

Cut to the Leaf

A kiss-cut sticker follows its own outline, so this artwork keeps the shape of the manuscript leaf it depicts rather than sitting inside a standard border. The result reads as a small object in its own right: a fragment of an old text, lifted off the page and set on a notebook, journal, or laptop lid, where it can be seen up close and turned over in the hand.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unknown-the-churning-of-the-ocean-of-milk-ca-178090-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788239533
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unknown-the-churning-of-the-ocean-of-milk-ca-178090-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
