The standing Buddha raises one hand, and his arched halo rises behind his head as the strongest curve in the picture. Two attendant bodhisattvas flank him, while robed attendants and armoured guardian figures fill the lower registers. An altar with offering vessels anchors the base. The palette is restrained: dark brown black outlines and robes, russet brown, brocade green, slate blue, and touches of vermilion that draw the eye back to the central figure. The painting is ink and colour on silk, and its rectangular panel frame gives the whole scene a formal, balanced stillness.

Meaning & Symbolism

Shaka is the foundational teacher, and his enlightenment is the goal that all sentient beings seek in order to be freed from the cycle of suffering. The two bodhisattvas and the Ten Great Disciples surround him as a complete devotional hierarchy, a structure common in Mahayana Buddhism that places the Buddha within the wider pantheon and signals the transmission of dharma and the promise of salvation. The work comes from the Kamakura period of medieval Japan, when Buddhist painting reached a high level of technical refinement and continental religious iconography was woven into local temple practice. Scrolls like this served as focal points for both temple rituals and private meditation.

Made for the Sticker Form

A scroll is designed to be unrolled and seen at close range, one section at a time. This sticker takes the same central figure and cuts him to his own outline, so the halo, the raised hand and the attendants read as a single silhouette. The kiss-cut follows the shape of the composition itself, turning a devotional hanging into a small object that can be placed and viewed up close, the way the original was meant to be contemplated.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unknown-shaka-shakyamuni-the-historical-buddha-with-two-attendant-bodhisattvas-and-the-ten-early-14th-century-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788244735
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unknown-shaka-shakyamuni-the-historical-buddha-with-two-attendant-bodhisattvas-and-the-ten-early-14th-century-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
