Surrounding the core are rows of seated Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, rendered in a traditional iconographic style that emphasizes symmetry and order. The outer periphery features the Eight Patriarchs of the Shingon lineage, depicted in distinct, rhythmic intervals. The color palette relies on muted, archival tones that mirror the aged parchment of the original artifact, creating a dense, geometric tapestry where every square millimeter is occupied by meticulous calligraphic strokes and sacred geometry.

Meaning & Symbolism

Originating from the Shingon school of Japanese Esoteric Buddhism, this mandala serves as a visual map of the spiritual cosmos. The central Sanskrit character acts as the heart of the deity's presence, while the surrounding figures represent the transmission of esoteric knowledge through the lineage of the Eight Patriarchs. By mapping these celestial teachers and enlightened beings in a singular, unified graphic, the design encapsulates the theological complexity of the Kamakura period, functioning as an object of meditation that compresses the entire Shingon hierarchy into a single view.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

The precise contours of the kiss-cut allow this intricate mandala to exist as a standalone icon, stripping away the rectangular boundaries of a typical print to let the complex geometric edges stand on their own. On a flat, indoor surface, the sticker functions as a concentrated study of the original artifact, turning a historical religious document into a mobile, hand-held piece of iconography.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unknown-mandala-in-sanskrit-with-buddhas-bodhisattvas-and-eight-patriarchs-of-the-shingon-sect-13th14th-century-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788289146
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unknown-mandala-in-sanskrit-with-buddhas-bodhisattvas-and-eight-patriarchs-of-the-shingon-sect-13th14th-century-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
