The central figure of the infant Mahavira serves as the focal point, framed by the dynamic posture of Indra. The color palette relies on bold, mineral-toned pigments typical of the period, set against a flat, decorative ground that prioritizes iconographic clarity over depth. Intricate linework defines the elaborate robes and accessories, while the balanced, rhythmic placement of figures creates a sense of divine order typical of Jain devotional art.

Meaning & Symbolism

Originating from a dispersed Kalpa Sutra, this imagery functions as a visual meditation on the auspicious nature of the Tirthankara’s arrival. The bath, or abhisheka, symbolizes the purification and sanctification of the enlightened soul, marking the transition of the divine being into the earthly realm. By distilling this complex theological narrative into a singular, iconic frame, the work preserves the aesthetic heritage of medieval Indian book illumination, reflecting the rigorous artistic traditions used to preserve the religious history of the Jain faith.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

The kiss-cut format allows this historic manuscript page to be liberated from its rectangular border, isolating the figures against any flat surface. Because the vinyl is cut precisely to the silhouette of the artwork, the intricate edges of the 15th-century illumination become a tangible accent for your laptop or journal, transforming an archival devotional scene into a portable, modern visual detail.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unknown-mahaviras-lustration-and-bath-at-birth-page-from-a-dispersed-kalpa-sutra-jain-book-of-15th-century-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788289444
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unknown-mahaviras-lustration-and-bath-at-birth-page-from-a-dispersed-kalpa-sutra-jain-book-of-15th-century-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
