The palette is restrained: slate grey, cream paper, and ink black. Brush calligraphy runs down the slips, and the character 極札 (gokusatsu) appears as visible text, marking these as the card-style labels used in the Genji tradition. The photographic treatment keeps the grain and edges of the paper, so the slips read as objects rather than flat graphics.

Meaning & Symbolism

The Heartvine chapter takes its name from the Aoi plant, and the chapter is central to the novel's study of jealousy, spiritual possession, and the transience of life at the Heian court. Murasaki Shikibu wrote the original text in the early eleventh century, and this Muromachi-era work, roughly five centuries later, reflects how the Genji narrative was reinterpreted by artists over generations. The slips carry that tradition forward: each one holds a chapter's name in brushwork, turning a literary sequence into a visual index.

Cut to the Slip's Own Outline

The sticker follows the rectangular silhouette of the paper slips, so the cut edge mirrors the artwork's own form. Kiss-cut construction lets the outline define the piece, which suits a design built from separate, upright slips. Place it where a Genji collector would want a name-slip: beside a chapter book, on a notebook cover, or on a desk where the calligraphy can be seen up close.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unknown-heartvine-aoi-chapter-from-the-tale-of-genji-genji-monogatari-16th-century-v26-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788113099
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unknown-heartvine-aoi-chapter-from-the-tale-of-genji-genji-monogatari-16th-century-v26-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
