Gold ink calligraphy runs across dark paper, so the script reads as bright lines against a deep field. The composition is a single rectangular panel, with the text carrying the image from edge to edge. Nothing competes with the script, which keeps the eye on the lettering and its rhythm.

Meaning & Symbolism

The chapter centres on Devadatta, a figure cast as the Buddha's antagonist, whose sudden attainment of enlightenment overturns the expected path to salvation. Its core teaching is that even those who commit grave transgressions hold the innate potential for buddhahood. That message of inclusion and mercy made the chapter one of the most read passages of the Lotus Sutra in medieval Japan. The scroll was produced in the Heian period as a sacred manuscript, and it shows how Buddhist doctrine shaped the art and devotion of its era.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to its own outline, so this rectangular panel becomes a self-contained object that can sit on a surface as a single piece of gold-on-navy scripture. The design asks to be seen up close, which suits a sticker that is meant to be read at hand's reach. For collectors of Lotus Sutra imagery, the piece brings a 12th-century manuscript page into everyday view.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unknown-devadatta-chapter-12-of-the-lotus-sutra-hoke-ky-daibadatta-bon-12th-century-v42-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788110036
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unknown-devadatta-chapter-12-of-the-lotus-sutra-hoke-ky-daibadatta-bon-12th-century-v42-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
