Rows of standing haloed buddhas recede across the background, while a bodhisattva wearing a jewelled crown and halo takes a prominent place in the scene. A green-roofed shrine sits on a pale blue base, and a flying figure trails a long scarf through the air. Vermilion red and pale jade green provide the accent colours. The work is painted on silk with mineral pigments and gold, and its circular halos set the rhythm of the composition.

Meaning & Symbolism

The scene depicts raigō, the welcoming descent of Amida accompanied by bodhisattvas, who come to escort the faithful soul into the Buddha's celestial realm. It expresses the core promise of Pure Land Buddhism, which spread widely in Japan during the medieval era: that sincere devotion assures rebirth in the Western Paradise. Produced around 1300, the scroll reflects the Kamakura period's turn toward devotional practices that ordinary believers could reach, and such scrolls were used in temple rituals and private worship.

Cut to Its Own Outline

A kiss-cut sticker follows the contours of its artwork, so the halos, shrine roof and flying scarf here stand on their own rather than sitting inside a rectangle. It suits smooth, flat surfaces such as laptops, journals and windows, where the scene can be placed as a small devotional image and seen up close, the way a viewer once approached a hanging scroll.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unknown-descent-and-return-of-amida-to-western-paradise-with-a-believers-soul-gsh-mandara-ca-1300-v7-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788108749
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unknown-descent-and-return-of-amida-to-western-paradise-with-a-believers-soul-gsh-mandara-ca-1300-v7-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
