Muted earth tones and subtle washes describe his tattered garments and unruly hair, while generous empty space grounds the minimalist composition in the classic aesthetics of East Asian literati art.

Iconography & Hermit Lore

Shide, whose name literally translates to "Found," was traditionally said to have been discovered as an abandoned infant near a monastery. Alongside his companion Hanshan, he represents a tradition of unorthodox enlightenment, rejecting courtly decorum for wild freedom and mountain refuge. The painting preserves centuries of Chan Buddhist folklore, celebrating the archetype of the enlightened fool who finds ultimate wisdom outside of societal structures.

On the Kiss-Cut Stickers

The intricate ink-and-silk brushwork is sharply isolated by the kiss-cut border, allowing the historical painting to be peeled and placed cleanly onto smooth flat surfaces like laptops, journals, and windows.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unidentified-artist-shide-the-buddhist-hermit-unknown-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788383351
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unidentified-artist-shide-the-buddhist-hermit-unknown-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
