Its orange-tan robe and ink-black cap give the strongest contrast, while ochre brown and dark teal settle the surrounding field. A gold brocade border frames the leaf with a repeating pattern. The inscription beside the figure reads 唐太宗真像 ("True likeness of Emperor Taizong of Tang") and continues with 帝名世民高祖次子在位二十三年號貞觀, naming Shimin, second son of Gaozu, a reign of twenty-three years, and the era name Zhenguan.

Meaning & Symbolism

Imperial portraits recorded who held the throne and preserved the likenesses of past sovereigns for court veneration. Images like this reinforced the Mandate of Heaven and tied each ruler to the line of dynasties before him. The album presents emperors from successive dynasties as one sequence, so the succession of rulers is the subject. Taizong was the second Tang emperor, and his Zhenguan era became a touchstone for good governance. The leaf was made in the early twentieth century, during a period of dynastic and political transition, when copying classic court painting was still a living practice.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker follows its own outline, so the orange robe, the gold border, and the panel's edge can be cut as one shape. The upright format of the original leaf carries over directly into a single sticker. The emperor's frontal gaze suits a surface seen head-on, and the piece can be placed on a laptop, journal, or window where it reads as a small, deliberate portrait.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unidentified-artist-portraits-of-emperors-of-successive-dynasties-early-20th-century-v10-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788059106
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unidentified-artist-portraits-of-emperors-of-successive-dynasties-early-20th-century-v10-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
