Grapevines dominate the field, with clusters of grapes hanging from gnarled branches and curling tendrils running between broad grape leaves. The palette is restrained: parchment beige ground, olive brocade tones, ink grey and charcoal for the vine and animals, and a single vermilion seal red that anchors the lower corner. The squirrels are the active point in an otherwise still arrangement, and the eye moves from the fruit to the small creatures and back again.

Meaning & Symbolism

In Korean culture, grapes carry auspicious meaning. Their dense clusters and climbing habit stand for fertility, prosperity, and the hope for many descendants. Squirrels, busy and quick, add vitality and energy to that message, so the pairing reads as abundance and a flourishing household. The painting comes from the late Joseon dynasty, when painters refined animal-and-flower subjects that became popular across social classes during the nineteenth century. It is preserved in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art as an example of Joseon secular painting.

Fan-Culture Meets Folk Symbolism on a Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker follows the exact outline of its artwork, so the grapevine and squirrels appear as a single shape rather than a framed rectangle. That suits a design built on tendrils and curving branches. It works well on smooth, flat surfaces such as laptops, journals, and windows, where the scroll's vertical rhythm can sit against straight edges and hard lines.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unidentified-artist-grapevine-and-squirrels-early-19th-century-v1-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788446459
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unidentified-artist-grapevine-and-squirrels-early-19th-century-v1-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
