Ink in dark grey carries the landscape: a misty mountain range fills the upper field, pine trees cling to a rocky outcrop, and small boats drift across a lake. Along the shore, tiny distant figures are barely more than marks, so the eye reads the scene as quiet and expansive. The brown silk ground, pale brocade border and black surround frame the ink, and a vermilion seal red adds the single warm accent.

Meaning & Symbolism

The work commemorates a gyehoe, a formal gathering of Korean government officials in the mid-sixteenth century, usually arranged by colleagues who passed the civil service examination in the same year or held equivalent rank. The calligraphy records the names and titles of those present, making the scroll a lasting social record of status and attendance. Such gatherings expressed Confucian ideals of social harmony, scholarly brotherhood and service to the state, and they helped sustain political networks within the Joseon court. Dated 1565, the piece belongs to a tradition of commemorative documentary painting that combined technical skill with intellectual rigour.

On the Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to the outline of its own design, so the artwork stands on its own without a surrounding frame. The scroll's pine, mountain and boat forms translate cleanly into a single cut shape, and the vermilion seal becomes a small point of colour against the ink. Its contents are a record of people gathered in shared company, a theme that suits a sticker meant to be placed and noticed up close.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unidentified-artist-gathering-of-government-officials-calligraphy-dated-1565-v1-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788447420
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unidentified-artist-gathering-of-government-officials-calligraphy-dated-1565-v1-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
