Deep charcoal and sepia tones dominate the palette, mirroring the aging of traditional mulberry paper. The layout emphasizes verticality, typical of a scroll format, with dense clusters of text flanking the central portraiture. Every brush stroke preserves the deliberate, energetic motion of the original artist, creating a high-contrast visual that balances dense informational blocks with the negative space essential to classical East Asian aesthetics.

Meaning & Symbolism

Dating to a 1641 colophon, this artifact serves as an official record of canonization, transforming a historical narrative into a sanctified document. The iconography surrounding Li Zhong denotes scholarly virtue and bureaucratic legitimacy within the Ming-era social order. By immortalizing the subject through specific calligraphic styles, the piece functions as both a biographical tribute and a testament to the period’s obsession with historical record-keeping. It is a snapshot of ancestral veneration and the formalization of status in late imperial China.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

As a kiss-cut decal, the ornate edges of the scroll are liberated from the constraints of a traditional rectangular border. The die-cut follows the organic, uneven silhouettes of the paper’s ragged ends, allowing the artwork to sit against a surface as if it were a physical fragment recovered from the archive. This distinct shape ensures the focus remains entirely on the depth of the ink and the complexity of the characters, turning a flat, historical study into a modular design element for your flat surfaces.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unidentified-artist-canonization-scroll-of-li-zhong-colophon-dated-1641-v15-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788456921
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unidentified-artist-canonization-scroll-of-li-zhong-colophon-dated-1641-v15-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
