Each Luohan is rendered with distinct facial expressions and dynamic postures, floating within a sparse, atmospheric space that suggests both depth and ethereal weightlessness. The line work emphasizes the flowing robes and weathered, idiosyncratic features of the sages, creating a balanced visual harmony across the vertical axis.

Meaning & Symbolism

The Luohans represent the attainment of Nirvana and the vow to remain in the world to protect the dharma until the arrival of the future Buddha. Historically rooted in Chan Buddhism, these figures are depicted with high individualism—ranging from the serene to the eccentric—reflecting a shift from idealized deity-forms to humanistic representations of spiritual mastery. Their inclusion in scroll art serves as a meditative conduit, intended to bring the viewer closer to the lineage of wisdom through their varied, contemplative states.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

Because this design is rendered as a kiss-cut sticker, the complex, winding outlines of the scrolls and the figures themselves are preserved in their organic, singular form. By peeling the backing, you isolate the Luohans from their original scroll context, allowing these ancient guardians to inhabit the modern, flat surfaces of your journals or laptop lids as discrete, portable icons.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/unidentified-artist-buddhist-scroll-the-eighteen-luohans-unknown-v5-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788457871
https://thestickerspace.com/products/unidentified-artist-buddhist-scroll-the-eighteen-luohans-unknown-v5-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
