Gandolfi centers the focus on the tense physical proximity between the executioner and the saint, utilizing expressive, elongated figures to emphasize the gravity of the event. The palette relies on earthy, muted tones that heighten the tension of the stark, open space surrounding the central figures. The silhouette of the blade and the downward gaze of the guards dictate the rhythmic flow of the image, drawing the eye toward the kneeling martyr at the heart of the frame.

Historical Weight and Context

Created around 1770, this work reflects the refined yet emotionally charged style of Ubaldo Gandolfi, an artist known for his ability to translate classical narratives into visceral, human-centered encounters. The imagery captures the transition between the Baroque preoccupation with martyrdom and the more restrained, linear sensibilities of the emerging Neoclassical movement. It stands as a testament to the artist’s mastery of anatomy and narrative pacing, freezing a moment of inevitable, somber finality.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

The kiss-cut allows this complex, figure-heavy scene to be lifted from the page as a distinct silhouette, separating the dramatic narrative from its background. Because the sticker is cut to the specific outline of the composition, the intense interaction between the figures gains a graphic, badge-like presence. This format shrinks the monumental scale of an 18th-century masterpiece into a curated, portable detail that sits flush against the surface of your laptop or journal.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/ubaldo-gandolfi-the-execution-of-saint-john-the-baptist-ca-1770-v1-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-BLDGND-2X2-1N2O5-front.webp?v=1789479897
https://thestickerspace.com/products/ubaldo-gandolfi-the-execution-of-saint-john-the-baptist-ca-1770-v1-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
