(U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Die-Cut Decal

A sepia albumen photograph of soldiers of the 44th New York Infantry drawn up on parade in their winter camp near Alexandria, Virginia.

Visual Elements & Composition

The picture is toned in parchment, sand and muted brown, with dark olive in the foliage. Rows of uniformed soldiers stand on an open parade ground, and five foliage-wreathed arches rise in a line behind them. Tents and wooden huts sit on the hillside in the distance. The ranks are the dominant element, and the level lines of men give the image its ordered feel.

Meaning & Symbolism

The photograph dates from between January and April 1864, when the regiment was encamped near Alexandria, a logistical and hospital hub for the forces around Washington, D.C. The orderly lines stand for the discipline that turned civilian volunteers into a unified army. The image is credited to Mathew Brady's studio, and it records the daily life of the Union Army during the American Civil War.

Shaped to a Die-Cut Sticker

A die-cut sticker is cut to its own outline, so the arches and the rows of men can be trimmed to the edge of the photograph. The warm, faded tones suit a notebook cover or a laptop lid, where the ranks of soldiers can be studied up close.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/troops-in-formation-at-camp-of-the-44th-new-york-infantry-near-alexandria-va-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal-50994221220750871285-front.webp?v=1790401803
https://thestickerspace.com/products/troops-in-formation-at-camp-of-the-44th-new-york-infantry-near-alexandria-va-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal
