Sage green, dusty grey-blue and indigo carry the landscape, while coral red and pale cream pick out the figures and their garments. Two women balance water buckets on a shoulder pole, and Mount Fuji rises in the distance above the lake or bay shoreline. Fine linework defines every contour, and the figures and landscape are arranged in a balanced, unhurried rhythm.

Meaning & Symbolism

Kiyonaga was among the most celebrated printmakers of the Edo period, and this work belongs to the ukiyo-e tradition's devotion to nature, seasonal beauty and graceful movement. Mount Fuji anchors the scene in a recognisable Japanese landscape, and the dancing maidens express the refined, tranquil sensibility that defined the era's prints.

On the Kiss-Cut Stickers

A kiss-cut sticker is shaped to its own outline, so the tall, narrow silhouette of this composition translates directly into the object itself. The maidens, shoreline and distant peak read as one contour, making the sticker a compact fragment of the print that can be placed where a viewer will look at it up close.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/torii-kiyonaga-dance-of-the-beach-maidens-late-18th-century-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-TRKYN-2X2-12-alt-3.webp?v=1785679450
https://thestickerspace.com/products/torii-kiyonaga-dance-of-the-beach-maidens-late-18th-century-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
