Sōri employs a clean, minimalist background that forces focus onto the interplay between the deep, saturated pigments of the blossoms and the pale, structured veins of the curling leaves. The line work is precise and rhythmic, mimicking the natural twisting habit of the plant as it climbs upward. The palette relies on soft indigo and muted earth tones, eschewing heavy outlines in favor of a wash-like aesthetic that emphasizes the translucency of the petals.

Meaning & Symbolism

Emerging from the Rinpa school tradition of 18th-century Japan, this piece reflects the period’s fascination with "floating world" aesthetics—the appreciation of fleeting beauty. Morning glories, or asagao, were culturally revered for their ephemeral nature; the flowers bloom at dawn and wither by midday, serving as a poignant meditation on the transience of life. Sōri’s focus on the botanical anatomy of the plant aligns with the era’s shift toward naturalistic observation, elevating a common garden vine into a subject of sophisticated artistic contemplation.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

By isolating the intricate, sprawling silhouette of the vines, the kiss-cut format allows the plant’s natural curves to dictate the boundaries of the artwork. Because the decal is cut to the precise outline of the blooms and stems, the design appears to climb directly across the surface of your laptop or journal, unconstrained by traditional rectangular borders.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/tawaraya-sri-morning-glories-18th-century-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788477097
https://thestickerspace.com/products/tawaraya-sri-morning-glories-18th-century-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
