Cool cerulean and deep indigo petals burst from the frame, balanced by muted moss-green leaves that appear to drift across the surface. Kiitsu utilizes a high-contrast negative space that anchors the sprawling vines, creating a sense of movement that draws the eye from the dense clusters of bloom outward toward the wandering stems. The flat, graphic application of color emphasizes the plant's silhouette, stripping away background noise to focus entirely on the lyrical rhythm of the climbing vine.

Meaning & Symbolism

As a staple of early 19th-century Japanese art, the morning glory—or asagao—represents the transient nature of life, owing to the flower's habit of blooming at dawn and wilting by midday. Kiitsu, a pupil of the legendary Sakai Hōitsu, masterfully adapted this motif to embody the aesthetic of wabi-sabi, finding profound elegance in the ephemeral. The work serves as a reminder to appreciate the beauty of the present moment before it shifts, a hallmark philosophy of the period’s master painters.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

The kiss-cut format isolates the wandering vines from their rectangular constraints, allowing the delicate tendrils and blooms to become a singular, floating graphic element. By tracing the outline of the foliage, the sticker transforms the complex botanical illustration into a contour-hugging decal that sits flush against your workspace or notebook, effectively turning a historical masterwork into a modular piece of contemporary decor.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/suzuki-kiitsu-morning-glories-early-19th-century-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788528744
https://thestickerspace.com/products/suzuki-kiitsu-morning-glories-early-19th-century-v2-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
