Harunobu utilizes a refined palette of soft pastels and muted, earthy tones that ground the scene in an atmosphere of seasonal serenity. The linework is fluid and delicate, emphasizing the rhythmic movement of the figures as they engage in the water-drawing ceremony, leaving negative space that highlights the clean, intentional layout of the original woodblock print.

Cultural Significance

This design serves as a visual document of Edo-era domesticity and the observation of the wakamizu ritual. By depicting the gathering of fresh, auspicious water, Harunobu elevates a mundane household task into a moment of spiritual renewal and transition. The figures embody the aesthetic sensibilities of 1769–70 Japan, where the interplay between human activity and seasonal customs defined the cultural pulse. It is a portrait of quiet reverence, freezing a transient, sacred moment of Japanese tradition in a style that remains a pinnacle of polychrome woodblock art.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

As a kiss-cut decal, the intricate outline of Harunobu’s figures is preserved, allowing the print’s negative space to vanish against your chosen surface. The shape-specific cut mirrors the intentional composition of the original woodblock, turning a historical print into a portable, contoured object that maintains its refined, serene visual presence wherever it is placed.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/suzuki-harunobu-drawing-the-first-water-of-the-new-year-ca-176970-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-SZKHRN-2X2-42-front.webp?v=1789245753
https://thestickerspace.com/products/suzuki-harunobu-drawing-the-first-water-of-the-new-year-ca-176970-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
