Vertical and rectangular panels divide the page, so the poem sits as the dominant block while partial painted court figures fill the edges. Touches of gold and soft pink lift the palette, and a single small character marks the right side of the panel as a quiet structural note.

Meaning & Symbolism

The Thirty-Six Poetic Immortals are the canonical poets of classical Japanese literature, chiefly from the Heian court, and this album honors them as a single anthology. Pairing each portrait with its waka makes the image and the verse one act of remembrance. The work reflects the Edo-period reverence for classical learning and the revival of Yamato-e, the style that centred indigenous Japanese subjects. Gukei, a key figure of the Sumiyoshi school, bridged court tradition and seventeenth-century painting through his refined brushwork.

Crafted for the Sticker Surface

A kiss-cut sticker is cut to the outline of its own design, so the calligraphic panels and courtly figures keep their edges intact as they are applied. The image reads at close range, the way an album page is viewed in the hand, which suits a sticker placed on a journal, laptop, or notebook where the poem can be read up close.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/sumiyoshi-gukei-portraits-and-poems-of-the-thirty-six-poetic-immortals-167492-v6-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788529953
https://thestickerspace.com/products/sumiyoshi-gukei-portraits-and-poems-of-the-thirty-six-poetic-immortals-167492-v6-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
