A horned warrior deity holding a staff dominates the frame, and a second deity holds a small object close to the body. Fine, light-coloured line drawing on parchment gives the figures their outline, while dark ink carries the text. Columns of Chinese characters run down the page, and touches of vermilion and grey break up the monochrome ink.

Meaning & Symbolism

The Nine Luminaries were celestial forces in medieval Japanese esoteric Buddhism, believed to shape human fortune, the seasons and the wellbeing of the state. Drawings like these were working tools for temple ritual, astronomical study and teaching. Their figures followed strict iconographic rules, because accuracy was what made the image effective. The text and diagrams reflect sacred knowledge brought from the Asian continent and reworked by Japanese monks and scholars, and the handscroll format unrolled that material in sequence.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

A kiss-cut sticker follows its own outline, so the warrior's horns, staff and the medallion's curve define the shape of the piece itself. Each figure stands as a single cut-out rather than a rectangle of text, which suits the way these deities were drawn as isolated forms on the scroll. Placed on a notebook, laptop or window, the sticker brings a fragment of medieval cosmology into everyday view.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/skan-iconographic-drawings-of-the-secrets-of-the-nine-luminaries-1125-v8-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-unknown-alt-3.webp?v=1788531312
https://thestickerspace.com/products/skan-iconographic-drawings-of-the-secrets-of-the-nine-luminaries-1125-v8-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
