Pointed Gothic arches and vertical niches frame the figures, and a tracery canopy sits above them. The seated Virgin holding the infant Christ is the central focus, with small angel figures set in the niches around her. Fine folds of drapery and ornamental detail fill the surface, and a faint pinkish highlight and ochre tone warm the stone.

Meaning & Symbolism

The tomb was commissioned by Queen Isabella I, the daughter of the couple it honours, and was carved between 1489 and 1493 in the Cartuja de Miraflores near Burgos. Its figures express piety, royal lineage and the lasting memory of the rulers. Gil de Siloé worked in Castile during the late 1400s, and his alabaster work is regarded as the high point of late Gothic sculpture in Spain, shaping the Spanish Renaissance that followed.

Shaped to the Sticker Outline

A die-cut sticker follows a custom outline, so the arches and the edges of the carved niches can define the shape of the sticker itself. The pale stone tone reads clearly at close range, which suits a sticker placed on a notebook, a laptop or a glass surface where the carving can be seen up close.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/siloe-gil-de-tomb-of-juan-ii-of-castile-and-isabel-of-portugal-detail-artwork-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal-30229991856214474334-front.webp?v=1789016450
https://thestickerspace.com/products/siloe-gil-de-tomb-of-juan-ii-of-castile-and-isabel-of-portugal-detail-artwork-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal
