Sherman, Officer Of The Federal Army (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Die-Cut Decal

A black-and-white studio portrait of Major General William T. Sherman, standing in full Union uniform.

Visual Elements & Composition

The figure stands in a tall, vertical frame, filling it from head to waist. He wears a double-breasted military coat with epaulettes on the shoulders, and the sword at his side gives the pose its upright line. The image is a black-and-white photograph built on greys: a pale grey backdrop, charcoal in the uniform, and white at the collar and cuffs. The lighting is studio-even, so the coat's buttons and the epaulette braid read clearly against the dark cloth.

Meaning & Symbolism

Sherman commanded Union forces in the Western Theater, and his 1864 March to the Sea is the campaign that made him famous, a deliberate push through Georgia aimed at the Confederacy's capacity to keep fighting. The stars on his shoulder straps mark his rank as major general, and the uniform and sword were the visual language of command. Portraits like this one were made to record a commander's standing, and they carried his image into the public eye during and after the war.

On the Die-Cut Sticker

A die-cut sticker can follow the upright outline of the standing figure, so the coat and the epaulettes shape the cut. The braid and buttons are the fine details that hold their definition at close range, which suits a historical portrait meant to be looked at closely, on a notebook, a journal or a laptop lid.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/portrait-of-maj-gen-william-t-sherman-officer-of-the-federal-army-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal-35746454916771558239-front.webp?v=1790446298
https://thestickerspace.com/products/portrait-of-maj-gen-william-t-sherman-officer-of-the-federal-army-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal
