Irvin Mcdowell, Officer Of The Federal Army (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Die-Cut Decal

A seated Union officer in a dark military frock coat, photographed in black and white during the American Civil War.

Visual Elements & Composition

Grey and charcoal tones dominate the frame, with black shadows around the uniform and off-white highlights on the face and collar. The sitter occupies the centre of a tall vertical rectangle, his sabre with its ornate hilt resting beside a carved wooden chair. The composition is formal and still, with the uniform's dark mass anchoring the image and the soft grey backdrop keeping attention on the figure.

Meaning & Symbolism

Irvin McDowell was a senior Major General in the Federal Army, best known for leading Union forces at the First Battle of Bull Run in 1861, an early engagement that shattered the belief that the war would be short. The uniform, the sabre and the seated pose were the conventions of rank and command in the period, and a portrait of this kind recorded a commander's authority for the public as well as for family. The image preserves the bearing of mid-19th-century military leadership.

On the Die-Cut Sticker

A die-cut sticker is cut to the exact outline of its image, so the figure's silhouette and the sabre's edge define the shape itself. The black-and-white tones read cleanly on a flat surface, and the sticker suits a notebook, a case or a laptop lid where a formal portrait sits at close range.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/portrait-of-maj-gen-irvin-mcdowell-officer-of-the-federal-army-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal-48342310656341488105-front.webp?v=1790450661
https://thestickerspace.com/products/portrait-of-maj-gen-irvin-mcdowell-officer-of-the-federal-army-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal
