Sibley, Officer Of The Confederate Army (U.S. Civil War) STICKER Vinyl Die-Cut Decal

A monochrome photographic portrait of Brigadier General Henry Hopkins Sibley, shown in a double-breasted military coat with a moustache and formal bearing.

Visual Elements & Composition

The image is a black and white photograph on a rectangular plate, with the sitter filling the frame in a formal pose. Mid grey and light grey carry the picture, and charcoal sets the darkest tones in the coat and the shadowed background. The most distinctive detail is the collar insignia: three stars within a laurel wreath, which marks the rank of a general. The restrained tonal range keeps attention on the face and the uniform.

Meaning & Symbolism

Sibley led the Confederate New Mexico Campaign of 1862, an effort to bring the southwestern territories under Confederate control. The campaign is remembered for its logistical difficulties and its eventual failure, so a portrait of him records Confederate leadership operating far from the main eastern theatres of the war. Portraits of officers of this kind were made to commemorate service, and the insignia and the formal coat state the authority that the sitter held in the Confederate army.

Printed on a Sticker

A die-cut sticker is cut to the outline of its own design, so the shoulders and the high collar can be followed as the edge of the shape. Grey monochrome holds its detail at small sizes, and the laurel-and-star insignia reads clearly on a notebook, laptop or sketchbook.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/portrait-of-brig-gen-henry-h-sibley-officer-of-the-confederate-army-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal-25305016227260599749-front.webp?v=1790463303
https://thestickerspace.com/products/portrait-of-brig-gen-henry-h-sibley-officer-of-the-confederate-army-us-civil-war-sticker-vinyl-die-cut-decal
