Quast - A Party of Merrymakers - ca. 1635–38 - STICKER Vinyl Kiss-Cut Decal
Pieter Jansz. Quast - A Party of Merrymakers - Kiss-Cut Sticker Design

This design showcases the chaotic, boisterous energy of 17th-century Dutch tavern life, capturing a cluster of carousers mid-revelry.

Composition and Visual Rhythm

The scene is dominated by a tight, overlapping arrangement of figures huddled around a central table. Quast employs a muted, earth-toned palette typical of his era, using quick, expressive strokes to define the crumpled collars, floppy hats, and animated gestures of the merrymakers. The composition creates a sense of cramped intimacy, with the subjects’ faces twisted into exaggerated expressions of laughter and intoxication that push against the borders of the frame.

Context and Tavern Narrative

Originating from the mid-1630s, this work serves as a prime example of the Dutch Golden Age’s fascination with peasant life and moralizing satire. These figures are not mere revelers; they represent the archetypal "merry company," a trope used by Quast to critique excess and the fleeting nature of pleasure. By freezing this specific moment of debauchery, the artist highlights the absurdity of the scene, turning a rowdy tavern interaction into a studied observation of human folly and social performance.

On the Kiss-Cut Sticker

Because the sticker is cut to the precise outline of the composition, the erratic energy of the figures breaks free from a static rectangular background. This silhouette format emphasizes the density of the group, allowing the distinct, layered shapes of the drinkers to stand out against your laptop or journal surface as a singular, cohesive vignette of 17th-century mischief.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0493/3949/8646/files/pieter-jansz-quast-a-party-of-merrymakers-ca-163538-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal-TSS-STICK-PTRJNS-2X2-2-front.webp?v=1789442895
https://thestickerspace.com/products/pieter-jansz-quast-a-party-of-merrymakers-ca-163538-sticker-vinyl-kiss-cut-decal
